CassandraClare_creditKellyCampbell_225.jpgCassandra Clare's final book in her Dark Artifices trilogy reached her devoted readers on December 4, delivering both pain (last book!) and joy (dang it, this woman can write!) as she closed out another thrilling set of adventures in her Shadowhunters universe.

Next year, Clare teams up with Wesley Chu to deliver more Shadowhunters action with The Red Scrolls of Magic, which follows High Warlock Magnus Bane and Alec Lightwood after the Mortal War.

We thoroughly enjoyed her favorite reads last year, and Clare's picks this year are just as fantastic. Read on for three books that will keep you glued to your couch.

Cassandra Clare's favorite reads of 2018

It's been a stressful past few years—politically and personally—and I'm someone who's always found comfort in books. Even in the lowest time, books offer me a lengthy escape into another world. The best thing about being a writer is meeting people who say, "Your books were there for me in a dark time" because over the years so many books have been there for me in bad times, and it feels like giving back. I'm glad to have the chance to share some I've loved recently in the hopes they'll offer escape and amusement to others! —Cassandra Clare

Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor

The follow-up to Strange the Dreamer. I loved getting lost in in Taylor’s lush, dreamy, inventive world, and this second book is just as mesmerizing and intense as the first.

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

This novel may have its roots in the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, but it is so much more than that. Novik herself spins a web of magical prose, drawing together three women who must band together on a quest to save their homeland.

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin

In the first book of Jemisin’s richly detailed Inheritance trilogy, an outcast heroine must find a way to hold her own amid the treachery of her grandfather’s court. I’ve got a special place in my heart for political intrigue, so this book was a delight through and through!
