Black-Edge.jpgJust in time for New Year, New You lists, here is a selection of picks from the Best Business & Leadership books of 2017. If you're looking to improve yourself in the coming year--whether in business or in life--here are some great reading choices. And if you're just looking for an excellent business-based, cat-and-mouse, unputdownable story (I'm thinking specifically of the third book on this page), we've got suggestions.

Principles by Ray Dalio - Our top business book of 2017 was Principles, which lays out Ray Dalio's recipe for success in life and business. As the founder of Bridgewater, he made a fortune and a name for himself. As the author of this book, he wrote a best seller that has remained on our list of top 100 titles ever since its publication. My interview with Ray Dalio from earlier this year can be found here.

Option B by Sheryl Sandberg - Amazon editor Erin Kodicek had a lot to say about Option B when we selected it as an April 2017 Best Book of the Month. Here is an edited down version of that review: "After the unexpected passing of her beloved husband, Facebook COO and bestselling author of Lean In, Sheryl Sandberg, feared that she and her children would never find joy again. Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, and Finding Joy--co-authored with psychologist and friend Adam Grant--shows you how Sandberg, and many others who have overcome a wide range of profound hardships, triumphed over tragedy. The book posits that it’s helpful to think of resilience like a muscle, one that atrophies in the calm between the storms of our lives. Option B starts an (oftentimes) uncomfortable but important conversation. If we lean in to the numerous lessons it has on offer, there’s a lot more joy to be found. "

Black Edge by Sheelah Kolhatkar - Here's a sentence that sounds kind of boring: Black Edge is a well-researched, well-written book about the government's efforts to take down financier Steve Cohen. But far from being boring, Black Edge will have you flipping pages. It's all here: a ruthless guy, a seemingly endless flow of money, a murky secretive world, and an intrepid reporter.

Hit Refresh by Satya Nadella - Usually we read a book like this because we want to improve ourselves. Or we want to know how a very successful person improved him or herself. In the case of Satya Nadella, he changed for the better one of the biggest companies in the world, and he's exploring how to prepare the world for the big changes that we will see in the future.
