Isaac Mizrahi is a fashion icon, a showman, and the author of a memoir--titled I.M.--that I couldn't put down. Mizrahi is also an incredibly busy person, and he came to Seattle earlier this year for both his book tour, and his traveling cabaret show. We did an event with him here at Amazon and he had the audience glued to their seats, laughing from start to finish.
Mizrahi's memoir, I.M., is incredibly candid and also a veritable who's who of the fashion world, because Mizrahi knew/knows everybody. He talks about growing up in an extremely conservative Syrian Jewish community, how difficult that was for him, and what it felt like when he finally moved to Manhattan and found a place where he could let the person he was inside be free. I.M. charts the highs and lows of Mizrahi's career; how he got started, who he worked with, his mistakes as well as his genius. We picked I.M. as one of the best biographies of 2019 so far and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a great summer read (or listen--Mizrahi reads the audio!).
Below is a clip from our conversation with Isaac Mizrahi, talking about his book, his early life, the fashion world, and what he's passionate about now.
