If you ever want to spark a lively conversation, try asking people how they like to shelve their books. By author, subject, size, or color? If you shelve by color, know that Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin of the ginormously popular book The Home Edit recommend that you arrange books by rainbow order because you can find what you’re looking for easier. And it’s easier to know where to put a book away—a boon for those who battle clutter on a daily basis.
Recently Clea and Joanna took their home organizational skills into everyone’s living room with their Netflix show, Get Organized with The Home Edit. And they also released a brand-new book, The Home Edit Life: The No-Guilt Guide to Owning What You Want and Organizing Everything. Just flipping through the pages of this beautiful book makes me want to jump up and tackle my junk drawer.
But as busy as they are, they still managed to make time to read. Here are the four books they both enjoyed this year.
Wow, just wow. This is the type of book that you keep on hand and refer back to, again and again. We can all gain something from Lori's raw honesty and insight, including the important reminder that we're all human.
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
We loved the show, but we loved the book just as much. It's so well-written and really makes you view a multitude of personal and societal flaws with fresh eyes. Highly, highly recommend.
Untamed by Glennon Doyle
If Oprah and Reese Witherspoon recommend a book, you know it's good. Well, Untamed isn't just good, it should be required reading for women everywhere. Untamed is unlike any memoir/self-help book we've ever read. As much as we learned about Glennon, we learned even more about ourselves. The quote: “When a woman finally learns that pleasing the world is impossible, she becomes free to learn how to please herself" is permanently highlighted in our brains.
All Adults Here by Emma Straub
A perfect summer read! It made us laugh, it made us cry, it made us want to sit on the couch and finish it in a day. Learning about this family's drama (and the secrets that come with it) from every characters' perspective was interesting and entertaining to follow.
