I'm an admitted cheeseburger fiend. I'll eat them at any time of day, multiple days in a row. I've had a few pretty good vegetarian burgers but--just being honest here--mostly held them in disdain. Until I went to Superiority Burger in NYC. This tiny, unassuming little spot has become a go-to for locals and celebrities alike. The food is vegetarian, mostly vegan, and ridiculously good.
Chef/owner Brooks Headley is a force of nature and is always changing things up, creating new dishes, tweaking old favorites. Superiority Burger now has it's own cookbook, a gorgeous creation that melds simplicity with style--it's a cookbook you want to page through and show your friends. I'd picked a few recipes from the cookbook that I wanted to try, so figured why not see what they taste like in-house. So we went to Headley's place on E. 9th and Avenue A to try the food, see what all the hubbub is about.
Below are photos from that visit, these are all dishes that you can make at home with the cookbook. I won't pretend all are easy--some are and some aren't. The Superiority Burger has a lot of ingredients. But the recipe makes a large batch, and believe me when I tell you that it's time well spent. I went to Superiority Burger for lunch then that same evening had a late-night burger at Shake Shack (don't judge me). Truth be told, Headley's vegetarian burger blew my favorite Shake Shack cheeseburger out of the water for flavor and overall satisfaction. I have seen the veggie burger in a new light, and it is glorious.
