The biggest awards in children's and young adult literature were announced this morning from the Pennsylvania Convention Center, in Philadelphia.  There is always a lot of excitement surrounding these awards, as there are no nominees and no finalists to mull over before the announcement of the winners and honor books.

The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander, illustrated by Kadir Nelson was the big winner of the day taking home multiple awards including the prestigious Caldecott Medal for illustration. New Kid by Jerry Craft also came in with multiple wins, including the Coretta Scott King award for text and the Newbery Medal for children's literature, breaking new ground as the first graphic novel to win this award.  Below are more winners and honor books; congratulations to all of these fantastic authors and illustrators who gave us such amazing new children's books to share with young readers in 2019 and beyond.
