Desk1.jpgThe Amazon books editors are literally surrounded by books. We read them, we discuss them, we write about them. Here are some of the books we've been talking about in the office this week--along with some late-in-the-game Father's Day help:

We selected Tommy Orange's novel There There as our featured debut for the Best Books of June, and it's been getting great coverage elsewhere as well. Some of us ran into the author a few weeks ago at Book Expo in New York, and he was just as impressive as his debut novel. A talented yet humble guy.

Over the last couple of days, we started noticing pictures of Joanna Gaines' Homebody: A Guide to Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave on Instagram. We hadn't seen the cover before, so it seemed like a quiet but well-executed cover reveal. The book publishes in November.

Anthony Bourdain's passing last week came as a real shock. We've all had the chance to meet him at some point, and he was equally as impressive and charming in person as he was on TV. Bourdain and his books have come up in conversation a lot this week. Seira Wilson wrote a piece that accurately sums up how each of us is feeling.

Ursula LeGuin died in January at the age of 88. There was a tribute held for her in Portland, Oregon yesterday, put together by Literary Arts and her family. We were sorry we couldn't attend. But you can watch the tribute here. It's quite touching, a celebration of a magnificent life.
