The Ones Who Got Away by Roni Loren - Liv is a survivor of a school shooting at Long Acre High School that left her damaged deep beneath her workaholic surface. When she returns years later to her hometown to participate in a documentary about the shooting, she reunites with Finn, an FBI agent who's also never been the same since that horrible day. A second-chance romance between two people who have many, many issues to work through will push all your buttons, evoking both tears and laughter as a light finally shines on Finn and Liv's futures.

Blood Fury: Black Dagger Legacy by J.R. Ward - Ward returns to the world of vampires and the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Forbidden love is the name of the game in Blood Fury, with two would-be couples having to grapple with their feelings that don't match their society's expectations. Ward expertly mixes action with passion, bringing her readers another winner.

Promise Not to Tell by Jayne Ann Krentz - Years ago, a cult leader tried to kill himself and his followers in a fiery bloodbath, and only a handful of children survived. But not everyone is convinced that Quinton Zane really died. Now-adult survivors Virginia and Cabot team up to journey to a small island in the Pacific Northwest to investigate a seeming suicide that they suspect is really a murder. Krentz is among the best writers who tackle adult romance (meaning, how thinking adults really conduct romantic affairs), and she does it again here with two damaged people who see the missing pieces of themselves in each other.

Heart on Fire (The Kingmaker Chronicles) by Amanda Bouchet - Bouchet brings her epic--and epically good--fantasy romance trilogy to a firecracker conclusion as Cat must confront the will of the gods and her own powers. Don't jump in with book three. Start with book one, A Promise of Fire, and make some dedicated reading time, because you won't want to put this series down.

The Pretender: Games People Play by HelenKay Dimon - I've enjoyed all of HelenKay Dimon's suspenseful yet also funny Games People Play novels, and The Pretender is another excellent addition to the series. Part-time art thief Harrison Tate is the only one who can clear Gabby Wright of murdering her sister, but to do so, he'd have to reveal that he was in the middle of a heist. Donning his alter ego of a stolen art expert, Harrison investigates who framed Gabby, putting both their lives on the line even as the chemistry between them ignites. Dimon's stories often revolve around trust--giving it, earning it, and losing it--and you'll be entranced by Gabby and Harrison's tentative dance toward putting their faith in each other.
