A racing pulse. Butterflies in the stomach. An obsession that can't be shaken… This is what happens when you look ahead at the new romances hitting shelves and Kindles in January, February, and March. Please, spring—come soon!

Small-town romances and sexy romantic comedies still dominate the romance field, with thrillers and historicals also staging a comeback. Here's hoping that 2019 brings you more laughs, more tears, and more sigh-inducing happily-ever-afters.

Untouchable by Jayne Ann Krentz

Krentz returns to her suspenseful contemporary series in which cult leader Quinton Zane—once assumed dead—has returned to take revenge on those he blames for his downfall years ago. FBI consultant Jack Lancaster might be the only one who can stop Zane, but Jack himself is on Zane's list of enemies. When Jack asks hypnotherapist Winter Meadows to help him delve into his memories of Zane, Willow also finds herself square in Zane's sights. Krentz crafts mature, thoughtful characters who lean on those strengths to figure out not only the truth about Zane but about each other. (January 8)

When Ashes Fall by Marni Mann

If you're like me, you might read When Ashes Fall and think, Why the heck is she still hanging on to her old boyfriend? He's such a jerk! But as Mann unveils what's really going on, your heart will flop over. And you might shed tears. Complex, deftly written, and deeply compelling. (January 15)

You Will Suffer by Alexandra Ivy

Ivy's Agency series has delivered goosebumps a-plenty as men and women tangle with serial killers and barely survive. In You Will Suffer, a lawyer and a former FBI agent suspect that the "accidental" deaths of overdose victims found around their small town are all too deliberate. Small-town secrets and a twisted killer should keep readers up late at night in more ways than one. (January 29)

Three Little Words by Jenny Holiday

Holiday's Bridesmaids Behaving Badly series has been a source of laughter and delight for me, as a circle of close friends deal with wedding shenanigans even as they find true love. In this book, Gia Gallo has to get the bride's dress from New York to Florida, and the only way to do so is to share a car with the best man. Really, what could go wrong? (January 29)

Motion by Penny Reid

The very funny Penny Reid launches a new Laws of Physics series this spring with Motion, followed quickly by Space (March) and Time (April). In Motion, the highly intelligent but perhaps overscheduled Mona finds that the only thing that can distract her from her ambitious goals is her brother's slacker best friend, Abram. Reid warns that Motion and Space end with cliffhangers, so be prepared. But of course still read them. (February 12)

Devil's Daughter by Lisa Kleypas

Kleypas's Wallflowers series crosses paths with the Ravenels as the widowed Lady Clare comes face to face with West Ravenel, her husband's nemesis in boarding school. Can they get past…their past? Kleypas's historicals are swoon-worthy and smart, and this heroine isn't afraid to break social rules. (February 19)

Faking Forever by Catherine Bybee

The fourth book in Bybee's First Wives series puts a wedding photographer and a jilted husband-to-be in Mexico as the wedding combusts and each blames the other for the bride's flight. But an unexpected attraction derails their acrimony, and they must figure out what's real and what's just the heat of the moment. Bybee excels at creating mature, fully realized characters, and this new book should be a winner for her many fans. (March 12)

Toxic Game by Christine Feehan

Back with book 15 of her Ghostwalker novels, Feehan keeps the suspense high as a deadly virus unleashed by a terrorist cell brings both Shylah Cosmos and GhostWalker Dr. Draden Freeman to Indonesia. As they become infected themselves, the stakes rise even higher for Shylah and Draden as they must work together to find a cure for an epidemic that could change the world. (March 12)

Your Love Is Mine by Bella Andre

Those who can't get enough of the far-flung Sullivans clan will be overjoyed to hear that Andre is starting a new series-with-a-series set in beautiful Maine. A Hollywood screenwriter who has just obtained custody of his dead sister's infant daughter needs a place to hide out from the press as he crafts the family life he never expected to have. The big-hearted owner of a cabin in Maine provides more than a refuge—she gives him a new optimism that he can leave his past behind and begin a brand-new life. (March 13)

In Her Sights by Katie Ruggle

Brave men and women who risk themselves in gorgeous if often isolated Colorado have been Ruggle's trademark. Her new series leaves first responders behind but still has justice as its heart, and it sounds amazing. Starting with In Her Sights, five bounty hunting sisters find their livelihood and reputations in jeopardy when their mother jumps bail, and the only one who can help them is a cheerfully annoying and way too handsome rival bounty hunter named John Carmondy. (March 26)
