In our fourth episode of the Amazon Book Review Podcast, editors Chris Schluep, Adrian Liang, and Erin Kodicek sit down around the microphone to talk about how we select Amazon's annual list of the best books of the year, and then Erin interviews Educated author Tara Westover.

The top three books picks are always hotly debated. We reveal which books those top three are, as well as what it is about them that propelled them to the top of our list. At the end of the first half of the episode, we also name the top picks in the kids' books, cookbooks, mystery and thrillers, sci-fi and fantasy, and romance categories.

In the second half of the episode, Erin speaks with Educated author Tara Westover in front of a live audience on Amazon's Seattle campus. Westover discusses her complicated upbringing in a survivalist family in rural Idaho, why her father believed the government and modern medicine would damage his children, and how she decided to school herself so she could go to college.
