I hate to think about summer ending, but autumn is the perfect season for reading. Nights stretch longer, the air grows cooler, and kids are back in school.
To really feel excited for fall, though, means looking ahead at what books are coming out. These ten upcoming romance novels range from romantic suspense to rom-com to historicals – with a paranormal and a sci-fi romance adding extra pizzazz.
Here are our most anticipated romances from September to December.

A Mrs. Miracle Christmas by Debbie Macomber
There’s probably no one better to write a Christmas romance than Debbie Macomber, who decorates multiple trees every year to celebrate the season. This year’s holiday novel features a (magical?) caregiver named, appropriately, Mrs. Miracle, who brings the spirit of Christmas back into the lives of Laurel and Zach, a couple who are trying to balance their hopes for a baby with their responsibilities for Laurel’s grandmother, who has just moved in. Mrs. Miracle is sure to warm hearts that can’t wait for the holidays to begin. (October 1)

I’m very much looking forward to diving into Jasmine Guillory’s latest rom-com. (October 1)

Aurora Blazing by Jessie Mihalik
It’s tough to write a fantastic science fiction romance that includes space ships and blasters and everything, but Mihalik blew me out of the water earlier this year with Polaris Rising. The story of a powerful but dysfunctional family preparing for galaxy-wide battle continues with Aurora Blazing. Bianca, the good sister who stayed at home and supported her parents’ political ambitions, finally breaks out of the stifling cocoon of her family but cannot completely shake free from her house’s security chief, Ian Bishop – who was once the man she loved. Mihalik writes great banter and kinetic action scenes, and this should be a winner. (October 1)

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren
Christina Laurens’ books have consistently won spots on our lists as Best Romance of the Year (Dating You / Hating You, in 2017) and Best Romance of the Year So Far (The Unhoneymooners, in 2019), so I have high expectations of Twice in a Blue Moon. After having her heart broken and her trust betrayed by Sam Brandis 14 years ago, Tate Jones tries not to think about him or yearn for the good times they had before he shattered her life. But when he arrives in her life again, Tate wonders if second time’s the charm. (October 22)

Someone to Remember (The Westcott Series) by Mary Balogh
Balogh adds a robust novella to her Westcott series this fall, with a romance between two people with more life experience than a more typical pairing. Thirty-six years after Matilda Westcott and Charles Sawyer parted ways, they meet again at a dinner, and long-banked embers start to burn again. Is it too late for love for a woman determined to be a spinster and a man who wants to upend her solitary existence? (November 5)

In the Dark by Loreth Anne White
White excels at the chilling romantic thriller, which is why we named In the Barren Ground the best romance of 2016. This new novel about a group of eight “lucky” people brought to a remote wilderness spa just as a fierce storm closes off all access has all the hallmarks of suspenseful read. Even better, I know I can count on White to create a heroine with grit and determination to fight whatever is thrown at her, whether it’s a killer, a blizzard, or her own personal secrets. (December 1)
