If you are a regular (or maybe even a semi-regular) reader of the Amazon Book Review, you may already know that I am a huge fan and listener of audiobooks. They are my thing. My go-to when I need to get out of my head, make tedious tasks bearable (even, dare I say it, enjoyable), and of course for driving. Like many others, I'm not making that daily commute these days, but the DIY projects are in full force and so, too, is my audiobook and podcast listening.
I was lucky enough to be a beta tester for the new Audible Plus feature that is now available, and as a listener I highly recommend it. I've already packed my Audible app with new podcasts, originals, and even some sleep meditation that I thought I'd try.
So what is this Audible Plus feature, you might ask? Here's the nitty gritty:
>The Audible Plus catalog includes audiobooks, wellness programs, and exclusive Amazon Originals and podcasts. I downloaded a couple of great new podcasts when I was testing this: check out It Burns with Marc Frennell, all about the science and obsession of hot chili peppers; or Habits for Happiness in the self improvement podcast category. I have been like a kid in a candy store picking out new content to load up on.
>You get unlimited access to all of this. Listen to your heart's content. If you're already an Audible Gold member (now renamed Audible Premium Plus), you'll still get your monthly credit to use on whatever you like, but you'll also have access to a big new selection of podcasts, Audible originals, free audiobooks (these are not bargain basement titles either, there are really good ones available for free!), and more.
>For those who don't have a membership, in addition to the Premium Plus option, you also now have the choice of Audible Plus for $7.95 and can download and listen to all the free content you want.
I've been impressed with the Audible originals—really fascinating topics that cover almost anything you might be interested in, from true crime and suspense (The Sisters by Dervla McTiernan is a favorite) to science and biographies. And many high profile celebrities in sports, film, music and more, are getting in on the act, including: Blake Griffin, Carey Mulligan, Jesse Eisenberg, Alan Cumming, Jamie Lee Curtis, St. Vincent, Common, and Tom Morello. Every week you'll find something new.
